The Mommy Makeover: A Road To A Better You

Cosmetic Surgery is a choice taken by an individual to enhance the body image they have of themselves and helps give them a higher sense of confidence. One of the most popular Cosmetic Surgeries to achieve this is the mommy makeover. The mommy makeover is designed to reverse the physical changes a woman goes through after childbirth. It is a combination of cosmetic procedures that typically include a tummy tuck, liposuction and breast augmentation/lift. Mommy Makeovers are a time of excitement for moms whose body haven’t been able to bounce back no matter how much work they put in. With a Mommy Makeover, there are a lot of things that clients have to go through before and after the surgery. CRS Plastic Surgery wants to give you all the information you will need to make this process a smooth transition for you.

Who is a good candidate for a mommy makeover?

  • You’re in good medical health
  • You’re at your ideal body weight
  • You have a positive outlook and realistic expectations
  • You are finished with childbearing

The consultation
The Consultation is where you and our skilled surgeons will extensively discuss the procedure, the process of healing, your expected results and answer any questions you may have. The surgeon will then evaluate if you’re a good candidate for a mommy makeover by  asking you about your medical history, prior surgeries and pregnancies. The surgeon will also advise you on the possible risks and complications and the outcomes that you can anticipate. If is recommended that bring a list of questions you may want to address during the consult with your surgeon.
Some of the Common Questions Patients ask:

  • Is the surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery?

A – Unfortunately, not all doctors doing cosmetic surgery are Certified Surgeons in   Plastic surgery. At CRS Plastic Surgery both Dr Christopher Low and Dr. Michael Cheung have successfully met the rigorous requirements to be Board certified in the field of plastic surgery.

  • How many years has your doctor been in practice?

A- Dr Low and Dr Cheung have many years experience in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. They have been long trusted by patients who have placed their trust and care to them. Cosmetic & Reconstructive Specialists of Florida opened its doors in 2016 when Dr Low and Dr Cheung joined forces to combine their years of expertise in plastic surgery for the benefit of their patients.

  • Where does the surgeon perform his surgeries?

A- Cosmetic procedures are normally done on an outpatient basis. Be sure to ask if your surgeon has privileges at more than one hospital or facility and if your surgery will be outpatient. Dr Low and Dr. Cheung both have privileges at several hospitals in Broward County as well as class C ASC’s.

  • Do you have before-and-after photos I can look at for this procedure and what results are reasonable for me?

A-  Every individual is different. From body type to wound healing, we all are a unique case. We encourage our patients to look through our website to get an idea of the procedure’s before and after photos. During your one-on-one consultation, your surgeon will discuss in detail what results you may expect dependant on which procedure you are looking for.

Preparing for your Procedure
Preparing for your procedure is one of the most important steps to ensure that your surgery does not have any complications. You might be asked to get a medical evaluation and clearance from your primary physician’s office, to adjust current medications you’re taking or to stop taking certain medications. You might also be asked to adjust your eating and drinking habits. The  Mommy Makeover is an intense surgical procedure involving the body, and general anesthesia will be used. It’s crucial that you answer truthfully to questions your doctor asks you before surgery and to listen to what the surgeon tells you to do so that you can obtain the best results with minimal down time.

Recovery
Following your Mommy Makeover Procedure, you will have gauze and tape placed on your incisions. Depending on what procedure you received, you will be given a support bra that is made to minimize swelling and give you support or a compression garment for your waist and buttocks. Your doctor will also give you specific post-operative instructions which will include how to care for your incisions and the medications to apply. It is imperative that you follow your post-operative instructions exactly as indicated by your surgeon.

The results of your mommy makeover will not be fully appreciated until several months after the procedure and during that time, you will have follow-ups with your surgeon. Your incisions will improve yet not fully disappear, your surgeon will however make every effort to minimize the scarring by making as small incision as possible during your surgery. There are also topical scar gels and creams which may be applied to aid in the scar healing process, the doctor will advise you if it is prudent to utilize such creams and at which point during your post-operative care to use them.Following your surgeons instructions is the way towards a successful recovery.
